The University of Tasmania (UTAS) was established in 1890, making it the fourth oldest university in Australia – a true ‘sandstone’ university. Today, UTAS has more than 29,000 students and is ranked in the top 3% of universities world-wide (Academic Ranking of World Universities 2012). With a commitment to excellence in learning and teaching, and a curriculum focused on global knowledge, skills and perspective, UTAS received more teaching awards than any other Australian university in 2012 (Australian Government Office of Learning and Teaching).
