About Us
|
A unique learning experience
ANU offers a learning experience like no other. The University’s distinctive profile of talented students comprises a strong undergraduate base, the highest proportion of postgraduate research students in Australia, and a strong cohort of coursework graduate students. Shaped by its culture of intensive research, ANU offers a holistic learning experience that goes beyond the classroom, giving students access to active researchers and opportunities for development around Australia and the world.
ANU is home to an interconnected community of scholars who are leaders in their fields. As a relatively small university, students are educated in a unique research-led environment by researchers amongst the world’s leaders in their fields.
ANU is consistently ranked as one of the best universities in Australia and the world. In the 2013 Good Universities Guide, ANU received five-star ratings for graduate satisfaction, student demand, research grants, research intensity, student to staff ratio, staff qualifications and graduate starting salaries.
Campus and university life
ANU has the highest percentage in Australia of students living in residence on campus. This concentration of students creates a vibrant campus community where you can study and socialise at the same time.
The campus is nestled within 145 hectares of parkland and adjoins native bushland and Lake Burley Griffin. It is also located next to Canberra's central business district where there are plenty of activities, shops, restaurants and cafes. Canberra has an active social life with a growing arts scene, major sporting teams, and award-winning boutique bars, coffee shops, restaurants and clubs.
The University has 11 main residences located on or near campus that provide accommodation for undergraduate students. Eight of these residences provide accommodation for graduate students. Four residences, together housing 2000 local and international students, are located on one city block providing a truly cosmopolitan experience.
The ANU campus experience helps our students to become global citizens prepared to address the big challenges of the 21st century.
First time undergraduate students from outside the ACT region are guaranteed a place in a University Hall, Affiliated Residence or Lodge, if they meet certain conditions.
